Hemlock is part of a shard of Azem that split in two, her other half being the Zella Dene. In their time, Azem had developed the ability to split their very soul and being in two at will, partially to better manage their work, but also out of a desire to never be alone. This ability seems to have echoed onto the source's shard, splitting into two and creating an irreplaceable and unbreakable bond between the two Warriors of Light.
